Keeping Your Plush Top Mattress Clean

In today’s world, mattresses are no small investment. Some people spend thousands of dollars on them, depending on the brand name. This is the price range you can expect if you are purchasing a Sealy plush mattress, or something similar from one of the other big names. Regardless of whether you spend $200 or $2000, you are going to want to protect your investment. The following information will help you keep your plush top mattress clean and looking great for years to come.

Maintenance

The best way to care for your plush top mattress is by following a few general maintenance rules. Like we mentioned above, you may have spent quite a bit of money on your mattress, so you want to protect it as much as you can. The first thing you should do when you buy your plush top mattress is get a pad or cover to go along with it. This will prevent your mattress from wearing out quickly. If you are the type of person who likes to eat or drink in bed, you can protect from liquid spills with a waterproof pad.

Many people will use their mattress for a couple of years and throw it away because one side is worn out. If you flip your mattress periodically, you can make it last twice as long by using both sides.

Cleaning

Eventually, your plush top mattress is going to wind up with some kind of stain on it, no matter what kind of pad you are using. The best way to deal with this is to clean up the spill immediately, if you are fortunate enough to be there when it happens. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, if the spill has time to set, it will become a stain. The other reason is that it can cause mold inside the mattress if it is allowed to soak in.

When you clean a spill on your plush top mattress, make sure you blot it instead of scrubbing it. Scrubbing will cause it to work into the material, creating a stain. After all, this is what you are trying to avoid. If it does develop into a stain, there are a number of upholstery cleaners that you can try. You may also be able to find cleaning instructions on the label of your mattress. Always avoid using harsh chemicals if possible. Another good idea is to vacuum your plush top mattress occasionally to remove any dust and allergens.

With a little know how, and proper care, your mattress may very well last you a lifetime.
